Antarctica Day 8 - Cape Lookout
December 28, 2014 to January 9, 2015
Today was our last excursion day in Antarctica and we were spending the day on Elephant Island. On the way there we caught a seal playing around in the water, swimming from side to side of our boat. He was definitely putting on a good show. They weren’t sure if we would be able to land on Cape Lookout, but luckily they found a safe spot and we were able to explore the island for a couple hours. The weather conditions on this excursion were not as nice as we had previously - it was very cold, the winds were high and it was snowing just a bit. When we pulled into Cape Lookout it was a very rocky, slippery place to walk around. Thankfully no one got hurt!

The first thing we saw were fur seals, including little baby seals that were so cute! We were able to walk across these very treacherous rocks to the other side where there were penguins and more seals playing around in the water. I sat on a rock for a while waiting for a seal to do something exciting, which is kind of like waiting for a pot of water to boil. Relaxing none the less. After watching the seals and penguins I headed back to get on a zodiac. We took a short cruise around more of the island and then headed back to the boat.
